“Growing up, I was out of shape. I dreaded anything to do with physical activity. Fast forward to my adult years and my perspective on health and fitness changed. I realized I had not been treating my body nicely and had to change it. I started eating better and started to workout. It wasn’t easy, but I found that when I treated myself better, I felt better. Still not having self-confidence, I tended to be a ‘closet gym member”’ This was true as I joined 212 Fitness. I didn’t want anyone to notice me. I wanted to do my thing and be done. In working out, I found a favorite activity which didn’t seem to love me back…running.

I found that I loved how I felt when I ran. As I tried running, I found myself in numerous doctor’s offices and in physical therapy time and time again. I was diagnosed with SI Joint Dysfunction and was getting cortisone injections in my SI Joint area when things got rough. My love of running turned into a love of running events and races. During this time, my lower back starting giving me grief and I knew that getting more injections was just a phone call away.

Being a member of 212 Fitness, I saw an advertisement for a weigh in program where you would weigh in three times and set goals along the way working with a 212 staff member. I mentioned my next goal of running a marathon and they strongly suggested working with a trainer to help prepare me for the race. She suggested working with Jordan Smith as they saw my goals matching his training methods and knowledge.

Before I knew it, my body started to change. My body fat went down, muscle and strength went up, and my self-confidence seemed to be making a ‘U turn’ for once in my life. I started to believe in myself for the first time in my life and it felt good. My running improved big time. Not only could I run, but I could run far, my stamina increased, I couldn’t wait for my running days, and I could run WITHOUT PAIN for the first time ever! I didn’t have ‘SI Joint Dysfunction’ and didn’t need injections and pain meds to help me through my day. I was just lacking strength, balance, muscle, and a strong core.

At the beginning I thought I would only work with Jordan around my first marathon. Well, that was several years ago, and Jordan and I continue to train together. There is no finish line. This is my life. If I am going to be able to be there for everyone I love and care for then I need to be the best I can be and that means never giving up, never giving in, and to continue striving to be better than who I was yesterday. My most recent transformation along this journey has been from 212 Fitness member to 212 Fitness EMPLOYEE! I love teaching group fitness classes and sharing the love of fitness with others. Let the journey continue…”
